Dalmatians are notorious for backing out of flat collars.  White Pine Soft Slip collars are a wonderful alternative that your dog cannot back out of and a metal choke collar that should not be kept on your dog at all times.  Made of 100% nylon that will not damage, cut, or even discolor when wet, they are more humane due to their limited slip action.
